Patch Cords Online collects sales tax on orders shipped to addresses in Texas and California only. Orders shipped to any other state are not charged sales tax.
Tax-Exempt Customers
If you or your organization hold a valid sales tax exemption, you can set up a tax-exempt account with us before placing your order:
- Click the "Tax Exemption Form" link in the footer of our website, or go directly to our Sales Tax Exemption page.
- Fill in your details and attach a copy of your sales tax exemption certificate.
- Submitting the form creates your customer account with the details you provided and sends your exemption to us for review. (if you already have an account please contact us).
- Once we have validated your exemption status, we will mark your account as tax exempt and notify you by email. Validation typically takes less than an hour during business hours.
After you receive our confirmation, all orders placed while logged in to your account will be processed without sales tax.
Please Set Up Your Exemption Before Ordering
Sales tax is calculated and submitted to our sales tax service at the moment your order is placed. Because of this, we are unable to refund sales tax on an order after it has been placed — not even if you hold a valid exemption certificate. Our system can only refund products, not the tax portion of an order.
If you are tax exempt and were charged sales tax on an order, both Texas and California allow exempt purchasers to claim a credit for sales tax paid in error on their own sales tax return. We understand this is not the most convenient option, but it is the only mechanism available once an order has been placed. Please consult the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts or the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) for details on claiming the credit.
To avoid this situation entirely, please submit your exemption form and wait for our confirmation before placing your first order.
